Huikai Xie is a Professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the University of Florida. He received his BS, MS and Ph.D. degrees all in electrical engineering from Beijing Institute of Technology, Tufts University, and Carnegie Mellon University, respectively. Before he joined the University of Florida in 2002, he worked at Tsinghua University (1992-1996), Bosch Corporation (2001), Akustica Inc. (2002). His research interests include MEMS/NEMS, integrated inertial sensors, microactuators, optical MEMS, biophotonics, optical microendoscopy, microspectrometers, and micro-LiDAR. He has published over 250 technical papers and holds 30 US patents. He has served on the technical program committees of various international conferences including IEEE Transducers, IEEE Optical MEMS, and IEEE Sensors, and the editorial boards of several international journals. He is a senior member of IEEE and OSA.
摘要:
Near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy has a wide range of applications including food safety control and environmental pollution monitoring. Currently diffraction gratings are the popular choice for making NIR spectrometers, but there exist some issues such as expensive photodetector arrays, grating anomalies and the need of order sorting filters. Fourier transform (FT) spectrometers, on the other hand, require only a single photodetector and have high SNR. However, conventional FT spectrometers (FTS) are bulky and costly. In this talk, I will introduce a new MEMS-based FTS that is small and affordable. The enabling technology is an electrothermal MEMS mirror that can generate a large piston scan of over 300 μm. Both portable and handheld FTS prototypes have been developed and applied for qualitative and quantitative chemical detection.
